Shamrock & Poppy Pin Badge

This striking Shamrock and Poppy enamel Pin Badge combines the red remembrance poppy with the green Irish shamrock, symbolising shared history, remembrance and Irish heritage.

First seen in 2017, the Shamrock and Poppy gained wider recognition when Ireland’s then Prime Minister (Taoiseach), Leo Varadkar, wore the shamrock poppy in the Irish Parliament (Dáil Éireann) to commemorate Irish soldiers who fought and died in the First World War. The gesture was widely seen as a symbol of respect, remembrance and shared history.

The badge represents Irish men and women who served in the British forces, particularly during the First World War. Around 206,000 Irish soldiers served in WWI, with an estimated 26,500 losing their lives.
